In a run-up to the mid way way of the program, a mock pitch session was organised for the startups in Cohort #1 . They all pitched to one of India’s top angel investors and our advisory board member, Mr. Bharat Banka.
He is currently advisor to many marquee corporates. He has diverse experience of 23+ years at Aditya Birla Group and at Indian JVs. He was founder of $200m Private Equity arm of Aditya Birla Group. He is associated personally with 10+ start-ups as investor/ mentor, he mentors entrepreneurs at Indian Angel Network, CIO Angel Network and as Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) and Founding Charter Angel at Venture Nursery.
Each startup made an elevator pitch to Bharat which lasted for 15 minutes including Q and A. Bharat asked each startup some key questions about their pitch and the idea/opportunity. The format gave the startups (most of whom were 1st time entrepreneurs who had never experienced pitching to angels or investors) a unique insight into what angel investors look for and what are the questions they pose to startups. Each startup had several key takeaways which will help them make their next mock pitch – scheduled end of May – better and more effective.
After the pitch, there was a feedback session by Amplifi’s Managing Director Sudarshan Narayan and advisory board member Vishnu Bhat. In addition, all the startups were made to critique the other’s pitch.
The session was made even more interesting due to the presence of Mr. Kohei Tsukazaki, who is in India on a 3 month research project on the Indian startup scene, on behalf of various Japanese corporates and investors.

After the session, there was a party organised by Amplifi for all our startups where the founders could let their hair down after a hardcore pitch session.
